You still won’t mistake Windows 11 for iPadOS, but I never expected Microsoft to go that far. This new OS is simply better for laptops that have touchscreens, and it’s far more usable for hybrid tablets like the Surface Pro. There are a ton of variables here, of course—your PC hardware, your accessories, whether you did a clean install or an upgrade. If anything causes compatibility issues, it’s probably going to be drivers. Windows 11 is introducing a new driver model, though for now all your old hardware and their old drivers will probably work as-is, assuming they worked in Windows 10.

Windows 10 has a bunch of extra background apps, including apps like OneDrive and skype running by default. In Windows 11, there are fewer background apps/processes running by default, and its resource allocation algorithm is updated to prioritize foreground apps. The first thing you will notice in Windows 11 is the completely new taskbar and Start menu. All the icons are moved in the middle of the taskbar, including the Start menu button. There are some new default icons, Cortana is gone, and internet and sound buttons are merged in a single popup with a bunch more options. Microsoft is touting Windows 11 as the best Windows version for PC gamers.

If you receive any error message, ignore it and restart the computer. Or reset this PC to restore Windows 10 to factory settings. And you could perform a clean installation of Windows 10 and restore all bundled apps. If you want to reinstall all Windows 10 built-in apps for all users, the following command is enough for you. You can right-click the app in the All Apps list in the Start menu and select “Uninstall”. But this normal way doesn’t work for all built-in apps.
